Obituary of Linda Fern Sterling
Linda Fern Sterling
July 8, 1947 ~ March 21, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Linda Sterling announce her passing on March 21, 2021 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK, Palliative Care from Cancer.
Linda attended school at the Airport and at Red Wing for Public School, Composite High School and then Presentation of Mary for her Business Course. She spent time with many friends in the area around the D.N.R. Radio Station where her family lived. The family moved to the new Radio Station, east of the Airport.
Linda was the oldest of four children born to Joe and Edna. Bill was the second born and lived in B.C. all of his adult life. Jim was the third born and spent his life in Prince Albert and now Warman. Brenda was the last born, or should I have said the fourth born. She has spent her life around Prince Albert.
I knew Linda and her family for years before we started dating in 1964. At the time we were both attending Composite High School. We were married October 1, 1966 (payday, so I wouldn’t forget our anniversary). Our first-born Troy was our Centennial Project born in 1967. He is a Conservation Officer in B.C. Travis was our second born and he and his lady run Total Signage in Prince Albert. Tracy is our third born and presently at home.
Linda worked at home most of the time babysitting friends and neighbor’s children. She probably had a hand in assisting over 100 children in reaching adulthood. Both children she babysat and our kid’s friends. She was a Block Parent for years. She also spent time on St. Alban’s Altar Guild assisting at the Church. We lived twice in Saskatoon area and the remainder of our fifty-four married years in Prince Albert. Linda enjoyed crocheting afghans for babies and grown ups. She made many over the years for family and friends.
Linda is survived by her husband Ronald of Prince Albert; son Troy (Debbie Van Ness) and grandchildren: Matthew, Rachael, Jordyn all of Nanaimo, BC; son Travis (Laury Holmes) and grandchildren: Keelin Holmes-Sterling and Ashton Holmes-Sterling of Prince Albert, SK and puppy Loey; daughter Tracy of Prince Albert, SK; brother James (Jim) of Warman, SK; sister Brenda of Prince Albert, SK; in-laws: Barb (Bob) Nye and family of Prince Albert, SK, Robert (Bob) (Doris) Sterling and family of Prince Albert, SK, Patricia (Pat) (Dale) Giles and family of Calgary, AB and Martin (Lori) Sterling and family of Prince Albert, SK; uncle Ken Madden of Alberta; special aunt and uncle (who she just found) Peggy and Art Smith of Prince Albert, SK, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Linda was predeceased by her: parents Edna Barton (2006) and Lawrence (Joe) Barton (2011); parents-in-law Elvine (Pat) Sterling (2015) and Burt Sterling (1993); brother William (Bill) Barton of Cloverdale, BC (2016); sister-in-law Debbie Barton (2020).
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to The Canadian Cancer Society wherever you wish or reside, or St. Mary’s Anglican Cemetery Endowment Fund.
We, the family of our sweet wife and mother wish to thank all of the people entrusted with her care: The Royal University Hospital, Cancer Ward Staff, Victoria Hospital Palliative Care staff and medical staff, Parkland Ambulance and Gray’s Funeral Chapel. Their service and kindness to Linda’s family was outstanding. Thank you to Bishop Hawkins, Father Butorac, Bishop Tony Burton, and Bishop Stephen Andrews for their calls and prayers.
On Sunday March 21, 2021 I lost my best friend. May she rest in peace. Our love is forever.
Private Family Service will be held. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306) 922-4729.
