Lillian L A Speers Sunday July 18th 2021

Lillian Lydia Agnes Speers (McClintock) passed peacefully at Lundy Manor Retirement Residence on July 18th at the age of 96. Beloved wife of Orval James Speers and devoted mother to Barry Speers (Miriam), Heather Speers (Otto) and Fay Atkinson (Art). Cherished grandmother (Nanny) to Lauren, Jordan, Ben, Alex, Sarah, Seth, Taylor and Eden. Loving great-grandmother (GG) to Judah, Peter, James, Jack, Cole and Galilee. Dear sister to Geraldine, Lloyd (Joyce), Joyce (Clare), Fay (Bill), Pearl (Tom, Tony), Raymond (Martha) and Allan. Dear sister-in-law to Orval’s brothers Andy, John, Bruce, Gerry and Eddie and sisters Belle, Edith, Ev, Ethel, Reta and Norma. Lillian was the happy aunt to forty-three nieces and nephews. Lillian’s family meant everything to her and she will be greatly missed.
Lillian was born in Quebec City on August 13th, 1924. She lived in Quebec City until moving with her family to the Lac Saint Jean area (Isle Maligne, Shipshaw, Arvida). Lillian grew up speaking both English and French. She loved school and was an accomplished student. She excelled at track and field and was an avid swimmer, skier and skater.
It was in Arvida that Lillian met the love of her life, Orval Speers. The year was 1944 and Orval was stationed at the army base in Arvida. They married in 1946 after Orval returned from the was and settled in Hamilton, Ontario. Lillian lived in Hamilton until her final move to Niagara Falls.
Lillian led an active life. She worked as a telephone operator before she married and in retail after her children were grown. She loved to square dance. She took courses in typing, smocking and yoga. Throughout her life, Lillian was a great traveller. She covered a lot of the globe with both family and friends. Caledon, Wasaga Beach and Manitoulin Island, Florida, Las Vegas, Hawaii and Vermont, the Caribbean and Mexico, Paris and Rome, Greece and Turkey and Mozambique. But it was always the province of Quebec that held a special place in her heart.
Lillian was a remarkable person in so many ways and an inspiration to us all. She was positive and strong and resilient, understanding and enthusiastic and adventurous. She lived a rich and full life. Lillian has left her imprint and will be dearly missed.
The family would especially like to thank all the staff at Lundy Manor for their exceptional and constant care. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Lillian, donations to the Heart and Stroke foundation would be appreciated. A celebration of Lillian’s life will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Caledon East Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Morse and Son Funeral Home in Niagara Falls.
