LILIAN PALY (formerly PAXTON) (nee CLARKE)
1918 – 2020
On December 24, 2020, in Winnipeg, our loving mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at age 102.
Lilian leaves to mourn her daughter Nancy, her son Joe (Dawn), her grandchildren, Timothy, Courtney, Taylor, Jay and Whitney, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was raised in the Wolseley area and attended Laura Secord and Gordon Bell schools. She loved the outdoors and included walking daily in all seasons well into her 90s. She worked at Eaton’s and was a champion bowler in their league and enjoyed swimming in Lake Winnipeg and cycling through the beaches every summer. She took an avid interest in the Blue Bomber games and the curling bonspiel championships. She was a member of the Eaton’s retirement club and participated in many trips with past coworkers and friends.
She had travel adventures to Barbados, Portugal, Ireland to name a few and of course California and Ontario where she spent Christmases with her children and their families. Mom never considered herself to be an “older person” and always looked on the bright side of life.
We always marvelled at Mom’s longevity when we celebrated with a well attended party for her at age 90 and then 100. Many thanks go to special friends, Penny and Terry Webber, nieces, Pat and Shawn, niece and nephew, Drinda and Don, who celebrated Mom’s 102nd birthday in October with a window party during COVID times.
Lilian was predeceased by her husband Lyall who passed in 1975, in later years husband Paul, her parents, Jane and Harry Clarke, brothers, Jim, Harry, Bob and Gilbert, and sister Jean.
Mom was proud of her Irish born parents and heritage. What a wonderful legacy she left for us. She will never be forgotten.
