Laura’s Obituary
Laura Vanjoff formerly of Buchanan, SK, passed away at the Preeceville and District Health Centre – Long Term Care, Preeceville, SK, on April 20, 2021, at the age of 94 years.
Laura was born on April 14, 1927, to Wasyl and Helen (Chutskoff) Vanjoff on her maternal grandparent’s farm, north of Veregin, SK. She received her grade eight education from Devil’s Lake School and went on to complete grades nine and ten through correspondence.
Laura stayed and helped on her parent’s farm for several years, then worked at the Buchanan Rural Telephone Co., as a switchboard operator. She then worked at Zellers in Yorkton, SK, and eventually at Co-op in Canora and Buchanan, SK. Living at home, she looked after her parents. Later in Laura’s senior years, her own health began to fail.
She loved growing a garden, looking after the farm, knitting, embroidery, tatting, crocheting, sewing quillows, cooking, and looking after her cats. While she watched curling on TV, she loved to keep her hands busy doing crafts. She enjoyed the opportunity to display her doilies, quillows, and other crafts at Trade Shows, where she met many people, who became her close friends. Also, with her sister, Doris, she travelled to many places in Canada and the United States.
As Laura’s health declined, she entered the Gateway Lodge in Canora, SK, and then was transferred to Preeceville, SK, to be closer to her family.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Laura was predeceased by her parents, Wasyl and Helen Vanjoff; brother, Walter; sister, Doris; and brother-in-law, Dave Tunbridge.
She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Helene of Sturgis, SK; nieces, Hilary (Deren) and Heather (Wes); and their children, Chaz, Mollie, Layla, and Cruz.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 1, 2021, at the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK, with Shawna Leson as Certified Celebrant. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to Paws and Claws Animal Rescue, Yorkton, SK, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Laura Vanjoff.
