In loving memory of Kaireen Elizabeth (Kelly) Crichton. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our mother, aunt and friend, Kaireen Crichton, shortly after her 96th birthday, on Friday, June 11th, 2021 with family by her side.
Kaireen was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Kelly, and predeceased by her brother William Kelly. She married Roger in 1949 and they spent many happy years together in Onaping before settling in Sudbury. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Peggy (Michel Tessier) and son Bruce as well as her extended family, friends, and the Sudbury community.
Kaireen was a woman of strong faith and great compassion. She lived a life of community service, giving to all who crossed her path. She faced her health challenges, always putting the needs of others before her own. A centerpiece of Kaireen’s life was the Soup Kitchen, now known as the Blue Door Cafe, which she founded in 1982. A community meeting place where everyone was welcome to share in a meal, knowing their life mattered, and allowed her to live her faith through action. Kaireen was blessed to receive many kind acknowledgments of her work, including the Ontario Medal of Good Citizenship, Honourary Doctorate from Laurentian University, Thorneloe Mitre, Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship and she was a Life Member and Past President of the CWL. The highest accolade in Kaireen’s life was always the smiles, hugs, and encouragement shared with those whose lives she touched.
Kaireen spent the last years with Roger at Red Oak Villa, and then stayed after Roger’s passing in 2018. The staff at Red Oak Villa are without a doubt the most wonderful people I have had the pleasure of meeting. Her wishes were met right up until the end. I would also like to thank her PSWs who went over and above, especially Jen who was with her in the end.
Resting at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury. (Friends may call 2-4pm Friday. Due to COVID-19 Pandemic directives, 25 people or fewer permitted in the visitation room and 95 in the church. Face masks are mandatory). Funeral Mass in Christ the King Church, 30 Beech Street, Sudbury, on Saturday, June 19th, 2021 at 10am. Interment in the family plot at the Sudbury Catholic Cemetery. Donations to the Blue Door Café would be appreciated. For donations and messages of condolence, www.lougheedfuneralhomes.com.
