It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joy Anderson Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Red River Place in Selkirk, MB.
She leaves her loving husband Lorne one day shy of their 62nd Wedding Anniversary.
Joy will be lovingly remembered and missed by husband Lorne; daughters Lauren, Rhonda (Buzz) and Tracey (Brad). Five grandchildren, Dana, Desmond (Char), Jade, Steven (Terrilynn) and Dallas. 10 great-grandchildren Taylor (Ryan), Zachary, Abby, River, Kalib, Lilly, Aurora, Troy, Sadie (Logan) and Keara (Jared). Two great-great-grandchildren Luna and Jake. She will also be missed by sister Lynda Henkell and brother Raymond Fawcett (Betty). Sisters-in-law Helen, Donna (Guy) and Margaret, brothers-in-law Calvin and Bruce (Lynn) and special childhood friend Joanne Jonsson. Her many nieces, nephews and friends will also miss her. Joy had a love for animals and her pets Tige, Trixie, Misty and Kitty were loved dearly by her.
Joy was predeceased by parents Lorna and Roy Fawcett and in-laws Minnie and Alex Anderson.
Joy was born in Winnipeg on November 12, 1940 and grew up in Winnipeg. As a teenager summers were spent at the family cottage in Victoria Beach where she met Lorne. They were married on June 13, 1959 in Victoria Beach and after a short period of living the city life Joy and Lorne returned to Victoria Beach to make their home.
Joy worked for Winnipeg Supply while in Winnipeg. She worked for Recksiedler Lumber in Grand Marais for many years with her good friend Pat Martin. Following this her and Lorne started their own business first with Lorne Anderson Plumbing & Excavating and then Lorne Anderson Septic Service which is still their family business today.
Joy was a very sociable person and fit right in with Lorne’s persona and family. She loved to organize and volunteer in many aspects of the beach. Joy lived a very busy life with her three daughters, family business and being a part of the community that Victoria Beach is. She sat on numerous committees with the Victoria Beach Sports Club, Merry Makers, Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club and St. Michael’s Church. She was a part of the Cottage Country Business Association, sat on the JUST committee and worked for Census. When Lorne became Fire Chief for Victoria Beach Joy put on another hat and became his righthand lady organizing the annual Fish Fries along with all the other duties of the Chief’s wife. She loved to curl, play baseball in her younger years and just all around have fun. So many corn roasts, Ladies and Men’s Bonspiels, weddings, funerals, showers to say a few of the things she would be organizing. People often asked about being bored in the winter months at the beach and Joy would always say “never bored no time for that out here.”
Joy and Lorne loved to travel and always found time for a trip. Whether it was to the States or out West for a visit or to Elkhorn Resort here in Manitoba they made time to do this.
Joy will be missed by many as she has touched a lot of hearts over the years and made many friendships.
Goodbye Mom we love you and will miss you dearly. We are sure you are rolling cabbage rolls with the girls up above having some good laughs.
The Family wishes to thank Pinawa Hospital and Red River Place for the care given to Joy.
As per Joy’s wishes cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. Private family interment at a later date.
