Joseph Richard Laderoute Sunday January 24th 2021

It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce the loss of our dear father, brother, husband, grandpa and great grandfather Joseph Richard Laderoute at 88 years of age, passing away January 24th, 2021. Born June 13, 1932 at Shakespeare Township just north of Webbwood, Ontario, Joe spent a large part of his childhood at Curriers Ranch on the shores of Birch Lake. Besides farm chores he also started to work as a fishing guide for American tourists on Lake Agnew. He worked a number of years for Kalamazoo Vegetable Products (KVP) working heavy equipment and building roads throughout the Shakespeare area! Joe met the love of his life at the Lee Valley Dance Hall and after shaking the dance floor on many nights they were married on March 4, 1954. Joe and Doreen moved to Waters Township where Joe was employed by INCO, then in to the Donovan area and lastly Sherwood Park in Minnow Lake for the last 51 years. After INCO, Joe drove transport for over 35 years with Tank Truck Transport. His children all spent some time with him on the road all over Ontario, some even learning to drive the big rigs! Growing up we remember many summers on beautiful Lake Penage (Panache) with Albert and Edna. We also spent a few summers on the French River and many weekends in Webbwood visiting Grandma Laderoute throughout our childhood. Joe and Doreen enjoyed traveling with family and friends which took them to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Hawaii, Spain, Italy, and a memorable Western Mediterranean cruise. Joe always took everything in stride and appreciated meeting new people and even through language barriers, making everyone feel welcome and important, often over a drink and a lot of laughter! Every place Joe went he made friends and had a connection with so many people. He would be the first person to help anyone with work that needed to be done. He spent many cold weekends at Holy Trinity Youth Camp putting docks in the water in the spring with his buddy Peter Dumas and Monsignor Murphy of Holy Trinity Parish. As he moved up in years, he spent many special moments with his brothers and sisters, cousins and close friends as they passed on. That was Joe, there to be with anyone in their time of need. All his family and friends would be able to certainly give you examples of many of his “Joeisms”, sayings and statements that would make you laugh…after you figured out their meaning!! Also, if you knew Joe, he always said, “I’d rather meet a bear in the bush than a rat or a snake!” Never was fond of either of those two creatures!!
Joe is survived by his beautiful wife Doreen, his four children: Jo-Anne (Milan) Zrinscak in Burlington, Fay in Toronto, Robert (Oriana) Laderoute in Ottawa and Kenny (Jill) Laderoute in Ottawa. Also his cherished grandchildren: Natalia (Ian) Gallant, Emily (Kevin) Zrinscak, Sierra, Logan and Chelsea. In addition his great grandchildren: Jonathon, Luka and Charlotte. Joe is survived by two sisters, Eleanor (Keith – deceased) Foster and Ivy (Tom – deceased) Rantanen and pre-deceased by his brothers Vic (Rita) Laderoute, Freddy (Irene) Laderoute and Albert (Edna) Laderoute. Joe was pre-deceased by his parents Ephrem and Rose Laderoute of Webbwood. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews that he held very close to his heart! Some of them meant the world to him, you know who you are.
The family would like to thank all the admin staff, nurses and doctors at the Northeast Cancer Centre, specifically Dr. Ali, Dr. Cano and Dr. Singh as well as Lise and Asha. Also a big thanks to the LIHN for all the nurses (especially Jennifer) that came to the house and treated him with so much respect, compassion and care. To Paramed for the help and care from the PSW’s who were so kind to him and always treated him with dignity. Joe was so appreciative of all the help and care provided and he always let them know that. Lastly to the Maison McCulloch Hospice on South Bay Road, to Dr. Walton who made all of us so comfortable in his remaining days, especially Dad, to the wonderful nurses and PSWs who, again, were absolute angels in their treatment, understanding and guidance through this difficult process. Dad was so kind to them all because they were so kind to him! Due to the pandemic and the restrictions in place, there will be no service at this time. A mass and a service will be held at a later date when gatherings are permitted. Any donations in Joe’s name can be given to the Maison McCulloch Hospice or to the Northeast Cancer Centre at the Sudbury Hospital. Entombment will also be done at a later date in the Civic Memorial Cemetery on Second Avenue. For donations and messages of condolence, www.lougheed.org.
