John «Jack» Roderick Churchill
1926-2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, John «Jack» Roderick Churchill, formerly of Port Maitland, on October 25, 2021 at the Veterans Place, Yarmouth. He was born October 26, 1926 in Short Beach to the late Roderick and Margaret (Symonds) Churchill. Our Dad started fishing at a very young age and he made it his life’s work. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he loved his family dearly. He was an elder at the Bayview United Baptist Church in Port Maitland, his faith and trust in the Lord was unwavering over his lifetime. Dad was a kind, decent man, who would tell us regularly how much he loved us and he would give us the best hugs. In his retirement he became quite the good cook and he could be seen on his ride on lawn mower helping out with yard work around the community. He enjoyed watching TV especially CNN and his favorite sport, baseball. He is survived by his children, Ruth (Bernie) Hurlburt, Port Maitland, Esther (Joseph Harold) Muise, Calgary, Alberta, John (Susan), Port Alberni, B.C., Thomas «Tom», Yarmouth, Mary (Bill) Sollows, Port Maitland, and Mark, Port Maitland, as well as his six grandchildren, Michelle, Renee, Ryan, Amanda, Jennifer and Alex, and great granddaughter Layla. As well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Edna Bernice Smith, and sister, Helen Wetmore. The arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, and as Dad wished, his body has been donated to The Human Body Donation Program at Dalhousie University for medical research. The memorial service at Bayview Baptist Church and committal in Port Maitland & Beaver River Cemetery will be held at a later date. Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the Bayview Baptist Church in Port Maitland, or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Yarmouth Regional Hospital and the Veterans Place for their kind and compassionate care they gave our Dad over the last ten months. Online condolences may be sent to sweenys@sweenysfuneralhome.net, or you may sign the guestbook at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net.
