THOMAS; John Herbert ~ It is with profound sadness that the family of John Thomas announce his passing on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at the age of 78. John is survived by lifelong sweetheart and beloved wife, Sharon Thomas; cherished daughters, Carrie (Lance) Sherk of Oakwood, Christine Thomas of Bowmanville, and Cindy (Roger) Gray of Port Hope; loving grandchildren, Jordan, Breanna, Lindsay, Courtney and Sheridan; and great-granddaughter, Aleah. He will be greatly missed by sister-in-law, Janice Drohan of Toronto. John was a truly devoted family man with an enormous heart and genuine, easy manner. He was a gentle soul with a wonderful sense of humour and warm infectious smile. He was kind and generous and was always there to lend a helping hand. His comforting hugs will be greatly missed by all those who were close to him. He was a 30-year veteran with the Toronto Fire Department and retired in 1997 (Freedom 55!). As well, he served for 3 years with the Canadian Forces. He was a man of many talents and enjoyed all manner of woodworking handyman pursuits and tending to his home property. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf with his firefighter buddies and other close friends. John will be fondly remembered by his older brother, Norman (Peggy, late) of Barrie, and family, Mark (late), Jon, Scott, Norman, Laura, Michael and David. He was predeceased by his parents, the late Harold and Evelyn Thomas of Highland Creek; and by his sister and brother-in-law and family, the late Shirley, Bill and David Smith of Brighton. Also, by parents-in-law, the late Clayton and Alma Schwalm of Lindsay; and brother-in-law and family, the late Bryce, Ryan and Randy Schwalm of Newmarket. The family would like to thank the staff at Lakeridge Health, Port Perry and family doctor G. Mercer for making his last days as comfortable as possible.
