Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Derek (John) Norman Hannaford. He passed on Monday, Sept 20th, 2021, at the Fort St. John Hospital at the age of 87.
Predeceased by his wife Heather (Brown) Hannaford and his son Mark Hannaford. Survived by his son David Hannaford and his daughters, Elizabeth Hannaford, Min Hannaford and Joscelyn Hannaford. His grandchildren, James Ragan, Naomi Hannaford, Jessica Hannaford, Sarah Hannaford, James Lapierre, Aidan Lapierre, and his great-grand-child Abigail Ragan. And lastly, his dog Jet, his best friend and companion.
He was born and raised on a farm in Devon, England. He was the son of Norman and Marjorie Hannaford and brother to Christine Hannaford.
When John was 17 years old, he and his family migrated to Canada from England. The family made their homestead in the beautiful Peace Valley Region in the 1950s. That time consisted of logging with their own sawmill, farming, starting a dairy business and in the later years, raising cattle and growing grain.
John was a farmer to his core. He loved seeing the soil turn over and the productivity of the earth. He was always up for a new farming challenge, changing the farm over from dairy to pigs, to sheep, to grain and then cattle. Farming and life adversities were met with a funny sarcastic light sense of humour, that always brightened up any situation. His friendships were deep and long-lasting. He was someone who never asked for a hand, yet, always so generous with his.
We will be coming together outdoors at Hannavale Farms on Saturday, Sept 25th between 1:30-4:30pm to celebrate his life.
