FREDERICK
John “Jackie” Frederick, of Hanover, passed away peacefully and gently on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the Hanover & District Hospital in Hanover at the age of 78.
John was born in Whitney Ontario August 4th, 1942, and graduated from St Joseph’s High School, Barry’s Bay, Ontario in 1958. He commenced employment in February 1959 with the Bank of Montreal and proceeded to be with the Bank for the next eleven years in Eastern Ontario, and Quebec regions. John resigned from the Bank in Kingston and joined the Royal Trust Company in 1970 as the Manager of accounting. For the next 20 years he held numerous positions with Royal Trust in Kingston, Hamilton, Montreal, Sault Ste Marie, Vancouver, and Toronto. In 1989, John resigned from Royal Trust and for the next twenty years and was the Controller and General Manager of Expressway Trucks Waterloo, living in Oakville, Waterloo, St Jacobs, and Elmira, retiring in 2008. After retirement, John lived in Port Dover and Hanover. John was involved in numerous Service Clubs over his life including the Jaycees and Optimists and was a member with Scouts Canada. He belonged to the United Church of Canada and was involved with local congregations in numerous capacities. Over his life, he was an avid camper, fisherman, car enthusiast, and country music lover. He taught his children and grandchildren to love the outdoors, the meaning of hard work and the satisfaction of a job well done. He enjoyed and perfected home repairs and was the call to person for his children when they needed support and help on projects. When John retired, he turned his talents to his lifetime passion for model trains. He worked on his own layout and enjoyed learning and teaching from other train enthusiasts.
He is survived by his wife Carol (nee Martin) of Hanover, his three children: David (Kelly) Frederick of Burlington, Shawn (Joanne) Frederick of Cambridge, Karen (Jayson) Straus of Elmira, and his three stepchildren Dianna (Jim) Hunter of Wasaga Beach, Marcy (Kevin) White of Ottawa and Daryl (Meg) Denstedt of Elmira. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Loved by his sister Marilyn Walsh of Lindsay, brother Ed (Janet) Frederick of Calgary, Alberta, his brother-in-law, Frank, and sisters-in-law Janet, Margaret, Sharon, and Alice. Predeceased by his first wife, Mary Ellen (nee Blevins), brother Floyd (Emily), sisters Hazel, Iona, Ruby, and his brothers-in-law Pat, Ben, Keith, and Jim.
Cremation has occurred and a Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. Inurnment will take place at McCoy Lake Cemetery near Algonquin Park and Whitney Ontario, where his heart called home. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mightonfuneralhome.ca
