Joan Maureen Lawrence

Joan Maureen Lawrence, aged 93 years, a lifelong resident of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2021. Joan loved spending time with her nieces, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nephews and her many friends. Joan was always ready for a game or an adventure with the children. Joan was the keeper of the family history and often shared family stories with her nieces. She enjoyed visiting and traveling with her nieces when they were young and with her many friends. After her retirement, Joan volunteered her time to help others by delivering meals and library books. She widely traveled in Europe and North America and spent many holidays in Spain and Portugal. She had a passion for reading and learning which she passed on to her nieces as well as her optimism, sense of humour and imagination.
Joan was a graduate of Dalhousie University and was a member of the Dalhousie University Women’s Club. She spent her career teaching in Halifax at Saint Patrick’s Boys School, Saint Patrick’s Junior High School and Saint Patrick’s-Alexandra School. Joan finished her career in education working as a consultant. Joan enjoyed learning throughout her life and encouraged others to do the same. In her later years, Joan appreciated meeting former students who shared their success with her and expressed their gratitude for her dedication to teaching them.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews-in-law, Maureen Aucoin (Tom) and Kathleen Driscoll (George) of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Eileen Deveau (David) of Uxbridge, Ontario and Barbara Lee (Winston) of Rothesay, New Brunswick, as well as her great and great-great nieces and nephews, Theresa Driscoll (Dominic, Matthew, Kayleen) and Maria Driscoll (Ian Pearce) of Dartmouth, Diane and Monica Deveau of Ontario, Rebecca and Jessica Lee of New Brunswick and David Lee of Ontario.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Richard Joseph and Eileen (nee DeVan) Lawrence, her brother Edward Lawrence, her sisters Mildred Lawrence and Eileen Strum, her brother- in-law, Robert Strum, her niece, Roberta Strum and great nephew, Paul Aucoin.
Joan was loved, will be missed, but never forgotten.

A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday August 3, 2021 in St. Peters Cemetery, Victoria Road, Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.
