Obituary for Jo-Anne Kathleen Emerson
April 29, 1960 – November 17, 2020
In sorrow we announce the passing of Jo-Anne K. Emerson (nee Casorso) on November 17, 2020 at Royal Columbian Hospital. Jo-Anne was born April 29, 1960 to Victor and Joan Casorso in Oliver, BC. She grew up there, but spent most of her adult years in the Vancouver area. She married Alexander (Sandy) Emerson October 13, 1991 and they had 2 children, Samantha (now 28) and Kevin (now 21).
Jo-Anne struggled with health issues for most of her life, however this did not stop her from living to the fullest. She worked at Vancouver General Hospital for a number of years, until she was no longer able; in her later years she enjoyed doing some volunteer work, for Baci, the food bank, and others. And along the way she lovingly raised her family. Jo-Anne’s gift was her kindness and concern for other people. Anyone who knew her enjoyed being around her; she touched people’s hearts with her generous and caring spirit. And she truly enjoyed her interactions with others, either in person, or as often as not, on the phone.Any contact with her involved a hug, and a «love you» that let you know how she thought of you.
Jo-Anne’s longtime hobby was baking, both for her family and to give away to friends. Those of us who were the recipients of her bounty appreciated and enjoyed her efforts. Her greatest treasure was her family, both immediate and extended, and she spent much time reaching out to them, trying to keep everyone close and in touch. Her favourite place in the world was the family vacation home at Vaseux Lake, where she loved to spend time in the summers throughout her life.
Jo-Anne was pre-deceased by her parents, and several close friends, especially Carren and Inger. She is survived by her husband and children, and brothers David, Stan and Ron, as well as all of their families.
Due to the Covid situation there will be no service at this time. We plan to have a celebration of life in the future when more appropriate.
