Janice Lynn McSorley
1958-2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of
Janice Lynn McSorley (nee Penney) on November 24, 2021 after a
courageous battle with cancer.
Janice was born in Quebec City to Catherine and the late
Allan Penney Jr in 1958. Janice always had a very special bond with
her twin sister Jean Penney, and when Jean moved to Fredericton in
1976, it wasn’t long before Janice followed suit.
Fredericton is where she met her husband Robert and they would be
married in 1979. Janice worked in Health Care for 42 years, retiring
in 2018 from Fredericton Addiction and Mental Health
Services. Upon retiring in 2018, Janice was able to spend
quality time with family and friends. She enjoyed travelling and
camping with her husband and beloved canine companion, Leo, in their
RV. Janice loved to laugh and always had a warm smile on her face. She
was a great confidante, always had an ear to listen or a shoulder to
cry on. Janice loved to create, whether it was a cake for
someone’s birthday or a hand knit baby gift for a new
arrival.
Thank you to all of the physicians, nurses and allied health
professionals involved in her care. Their compassion and
professionalism brought comfort to Janice in her battle with cancer as
well as support to her family throughout her battle. Thank you to
family, friends and neighbours for the outpouring of love during the
past 8 weeks.
Janice will be lovingly remembered by her husband Robert,
daughter Vanessa (Paul), son Bryan (Steele) and grandsons Anderson and
Owen. Janice is also survived by her mother, Catherine, as well as her
sisters Jean (Donnie), Susan (Steve) and Judy (Tony). Janice also
leaves behind brother-in-law Roly (Mary Beth), sisters-in-law Judi
(Harry), Beth (Phil) and Theresa (Peter), as well as many nieces,
nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
At Janice’s request, there will be no visitation or
funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian
Cancer Society or the Canadian Mental Health Association of New
Brunswick. Janice loved to hear good news stories, the ones
that bring a tear to a person’s eye, in that light, simple
acts of kindness in Janice’s memory would be also be
appreciated.
