Obituary of James «Jimmy» McIntyre, Dominion
It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother & friend, Jimmy McIntyre, age 84 on Saturday, March 20th, 2021 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Glace Bay and a lifetime resident of Dominion, Jimmy was the son of the late Joseph “Alla” and Tillie (MacLeod) McIntyre.
Dad is survived by his daughter, Janet, sons, Bernie & Glenn (Vanessa), granddaughter, Brooklyn who was his whole world, sister, Sylvia Dunn, brothers, Greggie & Arthur (Tickie), nieces & nephews.
Dad was a devoted father and grandfather to Brooklyn, as he would say, “You are my best friend.”
Besides his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his wife and the love of his life, Lexie who he truly missed and is now reunited with in heaven, brother, Manning and his sister, Loie.
Dad worked as a mechanic for 60 years. He started at Joe Delazzars garage, he then worked for Angus Steele (White Rose) and with Louie Mazzocca’s garage for 50 years.
Dad was a long time member of the Dominion Volunteer Fire Dept. He served from 1955-2017. During his 62 years with the department, he served on many committees. Dad was training officer, assistant deputy chief, deputy chief and Chief from 1989-2000. He was a pillar of the community and a well respected man.
Dad had a very good but dry sense of humour, he was known for his early morning drives and could be found sitting at the Fire Hall having his coffee with his friends.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 24th from 11:30 am to 1:15 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay followed by the funeral mass at 2 pm in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport. Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating.
