Harry was born to a military family and spent his early years living on a farm outside the gates of the current Comox Airbase. His desire to following his father’s footsteps took this eighteen year to the battlefields of Europe for WWII and again, brought him safely home. While completing his bachelor’s degree in Engineering at the University of British Columbia he met and married Mary (nee Watkins) on December 1st 1951. The birth of four boys followed from 1955 to 1968 with camping vacations, summer cottage, a boat & water skiing, and community service.
Harry always placed his faith as a high priority, leading him to apply his engineering skills to the design, planning, and erection of three churches; United Churches in South Burnaby and Campbell River, as well as the present Calvin Presbyterian Church in Abbotsford. He was well known for his generous spirit of volunteering, leading the 3rd Southview Cub Pack for eighteen years. Another 28 years of volunteering followed retirement with the Mission R.C.M.P. CPAC offices. For many of his later years, his participation with the Valley Singers and Pentones brought him great joy entertaining residents of extended care homes in the Lower Mainland.
Harry led an active life style, remaining independent in his own home until his death one month short of his 96th birthday. To the end, he would lead brilliant conversations and tend his pet dogs. Happy and content.
