Helen Dixon November 13 2021

Kathleen «Helen» Dixon
October 8, 1939 – November 13, 2021
Born in Montreal, Quebec, to Gladys (Arniel) and Arthur Morton, Helen was raised in Ottawa and graduated from Carleton University. Her initial career as an English teacher included positions in Ottawa, Guelph and Pembroke, Ontario. Then, in 1972, what started as a summer hobby evolved into a full time store operation dedicated to compiling and selling quality Canadian products. For 38 years, alone with her late husband Alan, She was the owner, buyer, display creator and newsletter writer/illustrator of the Snowbird Galleries in Golden Lake, Ontario, where she particularly enjoyed being able to support and promote Canadian authors and recommend a ‘good read’.
Her love of reading lasted throughout her lifetime. She volunteered for various local literacy initiatives and provided private tutoring for both children and adults. She was always thrilled to be able to help someone develop a joy of reading, to expand their imagination, their possibilities, their world. She also thoroughly enjoyed her local book club for the treasured friendships, book discussions and, of course, the treats!
Helen was the best friend, wife and love of Alan’s life for over 60 years and was forgiving of his love of creating drywall dust right to her final days. She was the proud and loving mother of Ian (Lina) of Peterborough, and Margaret Thomas (Andre) of Nova Scotia, loving and admiring grandmother of Sarah Thomas in N.S., Tyler Dixon (Kahlan) in Edmonton and Ben Dixon (Taylor) in Edinburgh.
The Family would like to extend their thanks to the Renfrew County Paramedics, Renfrew Victoria Hospital Emergency and ICU teams for their dedicated care, as well as to Mr. Tom Prince and the Jackson family for assisting Helen in her time of medical need.
Professional services have been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew, and cremation has taken place. In accordance with Helen’s wishes, a funeral service will not be held. If you wish to commemorate Helen’s memory, a donation to the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Foundation, The University of Ottawa Heart Institute or your local public library would be appreciated by the family. Helen’s ashes will be co-mingled with Al’s so they may continue to be together on their walk-about. Wherever they end up there is sure to be a pot of tea, a good book, drywall in the front hall, plenty of laughter and a fresh batch of scones.
Helen was muched loved and she will be missed.
