Hazel Evelyn (Parker) Bleakney
1930-2021
Hazel Evelyn (Parker) Bleakney, 90 of Grand Manan, New
Brunswick, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at the
Fundy Nursing Home in Blacks Harbour NB. Hazel was
predeceased by her husbands: Clarence Munn, Ernest James Brown and
Vern Bleakney; her parents: Jessie Parker (Hatt) (2004) and Charles
Parker (1965); daughter: Kathryn VanderSluis (2018); and son: Trevor
Brown (2020).
Hazel was born and raised in North Head where she attended
the North Head School. She then ventured to Saint John to further her
education and become a licensed Hairdresser. Hazel spent a few years
in Saint John then moved back home and opened Grand Manan’s
first beauty salon, Hazel’s Beauty Salon, where she served
her loyal customers for many years. After having, adopting, and
fostering many children she decided to give up her beauty practice to
raise her large family. She loved to travel and did not hesitate to
pack up the clan and go where the wind took them. We will all remember
our summer in Pocologan and the adventures from many road trips. She
loved to sing and was active in the North Head Wesleyan and Baptist
Churches over the years. Hazel was known for her fashion and flair and
loved to dress up and look her best right up until she
passed.
Hazel is survived by and will be missed by her children: Doug
(Francine) Munn, Rodney (Anne) Brown, Rochelle Thompson, David
Chappelle, Cameron Brown, Brad (Carla) Brown, Raima (Stuart) Green,
Nicholle (Alfie Adams) Rideout; her many grandchildren: Lowanda,
Michelle, Jeremy, Jessica, Kristopher, Sheridan, Carter, Nathan,
Darsi, Thomas, Tristan, Audrey, Emma, Sara, Turner and Martina; and
her 11 great grandchildren who will miss her.
Hazel’s family would like to say thank you to
doctor’s, nurse’s and staff of the Fundy Nursing
Home for the great care Hazel received. From hair dos to make up and
nails they made sure that she always looked her best.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home
(755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. There will be a graveside
service for family at a later date due to the pandemic.
