It is with great sadness that the family of Gregory Porter Chamberlain, 72 of Bridgewater, announces his passing on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the QE II Infirmary Site, Halifax.
Born in Lunenburg, he was the son of the late Hubert and Rhea (Cook) Chamberlain.
Greg started his early working career delivering papers for the Standard and groceries for Oxner’s IGA in Lunenburg and then took his electrical and construction ticket where he worked with his father at Lunenburg Electric. He then proceeded to taking a drafting course at the Lunenburg Vocational School which led him to employment in the electrical department at Highliner Foods for over 25 years and the last 8 years was employed with Bucks Home Building Centre.
Active within his community, Greg was an Honorary member of the Lunenburg Fire Department, a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served on Council.
Having a great passion for music, he was a member of the Lunenburg County Fiddlers Club, Trinity Fiddlers, Bluegrass Association and enjoyed teaching mandolin.
Although Greg led a busy life, family came first and he enjoyed the quality times with family especially his grandchildren. Fond memories were spent camping at Ponhook Lake, fishing, boating as well as working in his woodworking shop building furniture and carving ducks. Greg also had a passion for motorcycle, so on his 60th birthday he bought one and enjoyed riding the countryside. His love of life, family and friends and the community at large were so important to him. We have all been blessed for knowing this wonderful man and he will be greatly missed.
Greg is survived by his wife, Sharon, daughter Cara (Justin) Corkum, Newcombville; son, Tim (Angela) Pine Grove; grandchildren, Brielle and Brandon; brother, Gary Chamberlain, Lunenburg; sisters, Cindy (Sandy) Buchan, Halifax and Mitzi, Toronto; niece and nephews, Ian, Chrissy and James; several great nieces; sister in law, Shirley Conrad, Garden Lots and brother-in-law, Bernie (Linda) Conrad, Pine Grove and their families.
Greg was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A service to celebrate Greg’s life will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.
Covid -19 Restriction with masks to apply and seating in the church is limited so if you plan to attend please call the funeral home at 902-634-3942.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, the Lunenburg Fire Department Equipment Fund and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of N. S.
The family wishes to express our appreciation to the Doctors and nurses at South Shore Regional Hospital; the ICU and CCU at the QE II for their wonderful care they gave to Greg.
