Gordon Hedley Mooers
March 12, 1938 – June 14, 2021
Passed away suddenly in hospital on June 14, 2021 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Beloved husband of Lorna, adored father of Michael (predeceased) and wife Eva, Deborah, Erin Monahan (nee Mooers) and husband Jeff, cherished Papa of Tyler, Tiffany, Andrew and wife Taylor, and Nicholas, great grandfather to Junior, Mikayla, Finnegan and Callum. Gordon will be sadly missed by his brother Doug (the late Winona), his sister Elaine Scott and husband Richard, and many treasured nieces and nephews. Gordon was the well respected step father to Bob Talbot and wife Katsue of Qatar, David Talbot and wife Emily of Nashville, TN, USA, and Steve Talbot of Ottawa, and much loved Papa Gord to Billy, Saya and Jennifer. Predeceased are his father Gordon (Duke), mother Adelaide, his brother Jack, and his sisters Margaret, Mary and Juanita.
Gordon grew up in Woodstock, New Brunswick and joined the Navy when he was 18 years old. After 14 years he left the Navy to study at Carleton University in Ottawa and eventually became the well respected businessman and owner of Affiliated Real Estate Group of Ottawa Inc. After he retired Gordon met and married his wife Lorna whom he dearly loved, moved to Newfoundland in 2002, and spent many enjoyable winters at the Travellers Rest Resort in Dade City, Florida. It was here that he taught golf, which he enjoyed immensely, and made everlasting friends.
With his infectious smile and that twinkle in his eye, Gordon had a love of life that came across the moment you met him. His deep love of family was always foremost in his mind. Gordon will be sadly missed by his many friends both in Newfoundland and Florida and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 11:00 am at Caul’s Chapel, 1118 Torbay Road, Torbay, NL. For anyone not able to attend, the Funeral will be live-streamed at vimeo.com/event/1098620
Refreshments will be served afterwards at 9 Old Road, Pouch Cove. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association cmha.ca/donate
