Obituary
December 4, 1946 – March 3, 2021
It is with deep sadness and loss that we announce the passing of Gloria Rein. Gloria was “Nonna”; Mom; wife; best friend; activist; tireless advocate; and our inspiration. Over the past several years, Gloria faced a life-ending disease with poise, determination, and courage. Over the course of her life, Gloria often commented that she had three passions: her family; nursing, and the Union. Her impact on each will not be erased by her passing. Given COVID restrictions and in keeping with Gloria’s wishes, a celebration of Gloria’s life will be held in August when we hope family and friends will be able to join together in larger groups.
Gloria’s Family extends its gratitude to all those who supported her throughout her treatments: University of Alberta Hematology department and Dr. Nancy Zhu; Medical and Adult Day Medicine; the Athabasca Health Care centre; Drs McKenzie and Ogunnupe; Home Care services in Athabasca and Sherwood Park; the many nurses at the UAH and Athabasca; and her Amany co-workers, friends and family.
A community open house in memory of Gloria Rein and Helen Brauer will be held on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 between 1 – 3 p.m. at the Agriplex in Athabasca to share light refreshments and memories of Gloria & Helen. A brief commemoration will occur at 2:00 p.m.
