Gloria’s Obituary
SPENCER, Gloria Carrol ~ Age 76, of Greenwood, Kings Co., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born on April 13, 1945, in O’Leary, Prince Edward Island, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Carrie (Campbell) Matthews.Gloria was a long-time and devoted member of St. John’s United, Middleton, where she had taught Sunday School for over 20 years. She was proud to have volunteered with the Canadian Red Cross Society, helping women and children refugees that came from Kosovo in 1999. Gloria loved children and enjoyed being involved with the lives of her two granddaughters. Gloria decided to increase her knowledge and attend Middleton NSCC in 1991 at the same time as her daughter, Ronda. Graduating from a secretarial course at the top of her class, as well as being Valedictorian. Gloria enjoyed spending her evenings watching shows, such as, The Walton’s and Little House on the Prairie with her son, Paul. Surviving are her sons, Peter (Marie) Spencer and Paul Samuels, both of Greenwood; daughter, Ronda (Thomas) Lee, Lower Sackville; granddaughters, Jocelyn, and Kaitlyn; brothers, Owen (the late Barb) Matthews, Alberta; Derrick (Margaret) Matthews, Bridgewater; sister, Sylvia (Millard) Warner, Kingston; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased her husband, Master Corporal Ronald C. Spencer (who was killed in 1974 in service of his country aboard the aircraft Buffalo 461that was shot down over Syria, while carrying out a United Nations Peacekeeping Mission). Visitation will take place 6-8 p.m., Wednesday evening in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448, from where funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 30. Rev. Sheila Redden-Smith officiating with interment in North Kingston Cemetery. Due to pandemic gathering restrictions, there will be limited seating during the visitation and funeral. Masking, social distancing, and hand sanitizing are required. A live webcast of the funeral will be available for viewing through the funeral home website ‘Live Stream’ option beginning at 12:55 p.m. ADT, Thursday, September 30.
