Obituary
Gladys went to be with her Saviour the morning of March 6 at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born in Crossfield, Alberta to Jim and Vera Scholefield, where she grew up on the farm working in the fields, working with horses and attended a one room county school with her sister Phyllis. Both Gladys and Phyllis attended High School in Red Deer.
After High School, Gladys got a job in Red Deer as a parts delivery person for a local dealership. At the Red Deer Fair and Exhibition, she met her future husband Don West and they were married July 4, 1953.
They lived near Lacombe, Alberta until 1969, where their three sons were born. In1969 they bought a farm west of Ponoka and moved there. Farming had been their dream for many years.
Gladys is survived by her son’s Brian (Shirley), Gary (Sharon), and Bob (Cathy); grandchildren Bartley (Kyla) West, Amy West (Blaine), Jeanette (Ryan) Chenger; great-grandchildren Addison West, Ashlyn West, Halo Chenger, and Katana Chenger; sister Phyllis Coulter; sister-in-law Doreen DeCoster; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Don; parents Jim and Vera Scholefield; father-in-law and mother-in-law Jim and Dorothy West; brother-in-law Dave Coulter; and grandson Kent West.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, when the number of persons allowed at a gathering is significantly increased.
We would like to extend a thank-you to the staff at Rimoka Housing Foundation and the nurses at Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre for their compassionate care.
Memorial donations in Gladys’s name are gratefully accepted to the S.P.C.A.
