With heartfelt sadness, we the family announce the passing of George Henry Bishop, age 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Monday, January 25, 2021 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in English Harbour West, Newfoundland on April 4, 1940, he was the son of the late George and Margaret (Penny) Bishop. George was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic for thirty years until his retirement. He enjoyed salmon and ice fishing and was a well- known accordion player. George was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife Shirley (Jenkins) Bishop, his three sons George (Nicole), Dartmouth, Paul (Norma), Millville, Benny (Vicki), Saint John, his three grandsons Colin, Graham and Brandon, his brother-in-law Victor (Shirley) Jenkins, sister-in-law Joan (Wayne) Dwyer, a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be missed by his feline companion Babe.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved daughter Nancy in 1970, sisters Harriet (Jake), Mary (Johnny), Marjorie, Hazel (Billy) and brother Gordon (Nell) Penny.
The family would like to thank Dr. Alexander Wawer, Dr. Michel McKeough, the nurses of 4 West at the Northside General Hospital and Rev. Jackie Warren for the care and compassion shown to George and the family.
There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A graveside service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
