Gene (Genie) Margaret Mary Ellis (Nee Plante).
April 18, 1933 – July 18, 2021
Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Care – Parkwood Institute –London ON. in her 88th year.
Gene is survived by her husband John William Ellis.
Predeceased by her daughter Darlene (Shores) in April 2019, and by her daughter Stacey at age I month, and by sisters Dorothy (Greenlees), Rita (Lattin), and Doreen (Arnold).
Loving mother to daughter Dawna (Schleifer) and son Glenn (Hakey), and loving stepmother to Brian and Elizabeth (Ellis), and Jennifer (Rosenberg).
Grandmother of Katie (Hartt), Hannah and Liam (Robertson), Kellie (Bone), Misty and Gabe (Shores), and great-grandmother of Amelia and Lucas (Hartt). Also the proud and loving aunt of Linda (Outred), and Carol (Sheehan) deceased.
Gene was born in Montreal, Quebec. She attended McGill University, and was in charge of the medical records department at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa, followed by several years as medical secretary to neuro-surgeon Dr. Brien Benoit.
Gene was a warm and caring person, who loved all kinds of music from Opera to Jazz. She studied voice for Opera, and then enjoyed a brief career as a vocalist with an orchestra in Montreal. She loved dancing, cross-country skiing, shuffleboard, and a good game of Bridge. In the summer she loved to get up early to tend to her garden full of flowers.
In later years she loved to travel to Europe, and to visit the children in the USA, and looked forward to winter vacations in Florida and Mexico.
She will be missed by her friends and acquaintances at the Amica London retirement home.
A special thank you to the doctors and staff of the fifth floor geriatric unit, and fourth floor palliative care unit, of St.Joseph’s – Parkwood Institute.
In keeping with the wishes of Gene and John, cremation has taken place, and there will not be any visitation or funeral.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may make a donation to the St.Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to a charity of their choice, through Ostrander’s Funeral Home in Tillsonburg at www.ostrandersfuneralhome.com
