Robert ‘Gary’ Holmes passed away peacefully at home in Newcastle on Saturday September 18th,
2021 at 65 years of age. Gary is survived by his loving wife Lynne (nee Musick) of 44 years, his daughters Lyndsey Harper (Mike) and Alyssa Beer (Zach), his adoring grandsons, Jacob and Isaac and his wannabe lap dog, Lola. He will be greatly missed by his 3 brothers and 2 sisters and fondly remembered by all who knew him. Gary is predeceased by his mother, father, and younger sister Debbie.
Born and raised in Toronto (for the most part), Gary was an energetic boy turned teenager living in the 60’s/70’s. He had many friends growing up that he still has to this day and a very special group, with whom most of his shared childhood memories included in some way or another. Those memories are cherished by all who got to be a part of them or got to enjoy him telling you about them in his larger than life way.
Gary was always doing things for others, it gave him great pleasure to help wherever he could. He could always be counted on for a favour by strangers, friends and family.
During his 30+ years in the Construction industry as a Site Superintendent, he earned tremendous respect among residential developers, his colleagues, and trades people, gaining many strong friendships throughout his career.
To celebrate Gary’s life a Visitation will take place on Wednesday September 29th from 1-3pm at Morris Funeral Chapel, 4 Division Street in Bowmanville. The funeral service and reception will be private. Due to Covid restrictions the number of people permitted in the funeral home is limited. Masks and Social distancing are mandatory. Gusts no longer need to pre-register for visitation.
In lieu of flowers, Gary would ask that you do an unexpected act of kindness for someone less fortunate or make a donation to a cause close to your own heart in his name.
