Florence Mary Wall (nee Handrigan) RN
It is with great sadness that the family of Florence Mary Wall announce her passing on June 4, 2021 at the age of 85.
Florence was born in St. Lawrence, NL on December 7, 1935 to the Late John and Lillian Handrigan. Florence graduated as a Registered Nurse from the General Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. In 1962, she moved to Labrador City where she met her future husband, Leo Joseph Wall. They married on July 12, 1963, and together they raised three children: Jack, Leo and Ann-Marie.
Throughout her life in Labrador City, Florence spent her time gardening, fishing and berry picking. In 1991, she retired from the CWJM Hospital. Since retiring, Florence and Leo spent their summers in Prevost, QC and winters in Florida. In 2004, Florence and Leo moved to Mount Pearl, NL to be closer to family. Florence continued to winter in Florida where she had a large circle of friends and loved shopping at Beall’s. She took up sewing and learned how to quilt. Her summers were spent between her home in Mount Pearl and at a campground in St. Lawrence, fishing, berry picking and gardening – all of her favourite things. One of her greatest joys was having her children, grandchildren and friends visit her homes in Newfoundland and Florida where she cooked them their favourite foods like lasagna, cheesecake, turkey dinner, Cornish hens and broccoli salad.
Florence leaves to mourn: her husband, Leo; sons, John “Jack” (Joanne Hammond) and Leo Jr.; daughter, Ann-Marie Jenkins (Cory); 6 grandsons, Anthony, Gregory, Kyle and Matthew Wall and Kevin and Ryan Jenkins; 3 granddaughters, Brittiney Wall (Andrew Tucker), Isabella Wall and Danilyn Smith as well as 3 great-grandchildren, Melody and AJ Tucker and Paislee McLean-Wall.
Also left to mourn are her sisters-in-law, Bernice Handrigan, Kate Handrigan, Brenda Handrigan and Agnes Ford. Florence also had a large circle of friends that will miss her dearly including special friend, Helen Gosine.
Florence is predeceased by her parents, John and Lillian; brothers, Adolphe, Cecil and Michael; in-laws, John and Fanny Wall, Mary Dwyer, Eliza Morrissey, Gertrude Power and many other family members and friends.
Thank you to all the nursing staff on 4SB at the Health Sciences Centre for the wonderful care they gave our mom. Special thanks to Kerri Carroll, NP. As per Florence’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 from 2-4pm and 6-9pm. A burial will take place at a later date.
