Florence Bessie Eva May Elsasser (nee Carter) passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 30, 2021 after a short illness. Florence was born on April 14, 1927 in England to Dora and Albert Carter. In 1944, Florence met and married a Canadian Soldier, Louis Edward Clark Elsasser in Milton, England and they spent 55 years together prior to his death in 2000. Florence joined her husband, Clark, in Canada in 1946 to raise their family in Markstay, Ontario. Florence leaves behind her children, Pearl Constantineau (Norman predeceased), Florence O’Connor (Doug predeceased), Lynda Gibas (Eugene) Michael Elsasser predeceased (Gloria), Joy Champagne (Kenneth), Kendall Elsasser (Teresa) and Carter Elsasser (Sheila), and 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Florence was an active member of the War Brides of Canada, Markstay Union Church and Ladies Auxiliary, Markstay Golden Age and Senior Club, Markstay Women’s Institute, Markstay Mixed and Ladies Dart League. Florence enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends, Skip-Bo, Phase 10, and Canasta were some of her favourites. Though she liked to make up her own rules when she needed. She spent many evenings knitting, playing Bingo, watching British Shows and was known to pick the English accent when she watched too many. In true English fashion, Florence was a strong willed and feisty lady. Florence was an avid collector of Santa memorabilia and was famous for her English Traditions of Christmas puddings and the heavily brandied sauce, dark Christmas cake and Christmas stockings. Florence enjoyed hosting her English family when they came to Canada to visit, as well as her trips home. She will be missed by her family across the pond as well as her Canadian nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Markstay Union Church, Building Fund. Resting at Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. (Friends may call 2-8pm Monday, June 14, 2021 and after 10am Tuesday). Funeral Service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 11am.
