ELVA KATHLEEN (KAY) PEACOCK
Kay Peacock (nee McLean) passed away peacefully at the Willow Grove LTC residence, with her family at her side, on August 2, 2021, at the age of 95.
Kay was born in Barrie to Hazel and Clifford McLean on March 17, 1926. She lived and schooled in Barrie until graduation from Barrie Central High School at which time she went to pursue her Registered Nurse designation at Hamilton General Hospital, graduating in the class of 1948.
Kay married Douglas Peacock of Barrie, her high school sweetheart and Professional Forester, in the fall of 1948, and embarked on a 15 year adventure in various locations in Northern Ontario, including White River, North Bay and Gogama. She was a practicing nurse in North Bay, and served on a volunteer basis as the only person with medical training in Gogama.
Kay and Doug then returned to Southern and Eastern Ontario, first briefly in Thornhill, and then In Iroquois starting in 1967, Doug pre-deceased Kay in 1988, and Kay stayed in Iroquois until 2002 when she moved back to her original home town of Barrie. She moved into an assisted living facility in Dundas in 2015, where she resided until a fall hospitalized her in early 2021.
Kay was an active participant in many outdoor activities and sports throughout her life, particularly including curling and golf. In spite of being in a serious car accident at age 52 resulting in multiple medical issues, she never lost her energy level and her love for family, friends and life.
Kay is survived by her sons Paul (Karen) and Stephen (Marni), her grandchildren Sarah (Neil), Meghan (Evan), Abby (Matt) and Brendan (Robyn), and her great grandchildren Hudson (12), Lily (9) and Palmer (almost 2) and will be remembered and missed by her sister in law Ruth (Tom) and Jean (Ross, who passed in 2016) and their families, and by her surviving friends spread across Ontario and elsewhere.
There will be a memorial gathering at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Saturday, August 14th, 2021 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Diabetes Canada would be appreciated. Online condolences and memories may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com
