BARAKETT, EDWARD JOHN (Ed) passed away peacefully on July 23, 2021, at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, in his 82nd year, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born October 5th, 1938, in Montreal, Quebec, Ed was the youngest child of three to Tanius Barakett and Ellen Grace Booth. He is remembered with great love by his family and friends. Survived by his wife Freda, daughter Susan, son Tom and predeceased by son Andrew. Dear grandfather of Bianca, Olivia, and Sophia. He is also survived by his sister Diane and her husband Donald; predeceased by nephews Richard, Eric, and Carl, brother Raymond, and survived by nieces Catherine and Isabelle. After earning his BA at McGill and an MBA at Western University, Ed went on to a long, illustrious career including as President and CEO of Federal Industries Ltd and President and GM of Cashway Building Centres. Although Ed was an accomplished businessman, his true happiness was skiing and travelling with family, playing squash, golfing with friends, reading books, and spending time with his grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. An interment service will be in Ancaster at a date to be determined. If desired, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada.
