Edith Mae Irving 19492021

Edith Mae Irving
1949-2021
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Edith Mae Irving
announces her passing at the Aberdeen Hospital on November 8th,
2021.
Born February 10th, 1949, to the late Milton and Hattie
(Fraser) Irving, she grew up in Pictou Landing with her large
family.
Over the course of her life, Edith has had many jobs
including administration duties at several businesses, most notably
with Trenton Car Works. She has also been an income tax preparer,
secretary for the Pictou County School Board and cook. However, if you
ask anyone, they will tell you what she is absolutely famous for is
her baking. Edith is also noted for being a kind-hearted person that
would do anything for anyone, all they had to do was
ask.
The early part of her life she spent living in Nova Scotia,
where in 1976 she had her daughter Cheryl, the highlight of her life.
She remained living in Trenton while Cheryl grew up. During this time,
she was the go-to mom for Cheryl and all her friends, which kept her
very busy, but she still had time for Bingo, cards and
darts.
While living in Trenton she met the love of her life Hedley
Cowie. She eventually moved to Nashwaak Bridge, New Brunswick where
she spent many happy years with Hedley, his family and many friends,
doing all the things they loved.
Edith has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for over
40 years, first joining Trenton Legion Branch 29, then transferring to
Nashwaak Bridge where she held numerous positions. Three years ago,
she returned to Trenton and again returned to the Trenton Legion on
the executive until her health started
failing.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl, Calgary, AB;
siblings, Sarah Jane (Charles Waters), Little Harbour; Danny (Pat),
New Glasgow; Joey, Pictou Landing; Bobby (Vicki), Chance Harbour; Mary
(Gary Vacheresse), Pictou Landing; Nancy (John Fraser) Port Arthur,
Texas; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by her partner, Hedley (2018); her
sister, Lisa (2002); and her sister-in-law, Peggy
(2016).
Special thanks to nieces Jennifer O’Hearn and Jayne
Irving for all their help and support over the last 3 years, there
wasn’t a task too big or too small that they
didn’t tackle for Edith when she returned to Nova Scotia.
She loved them dearly. As well to her lifelong friends, Susan Halfyard
and Marilyn Lockhart, over the years, regardless of the miles apart
Edith stayed close to both and cared deeply about them both to the
end.
The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and
staff in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital for all
their care and support they provided to Edith over the course of her
illness. In addition, the VON provided wonderful home care and
compassion which the family appreciated.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at R.H.
