Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Charles Durrell Godsoe announces his passing on Monday June 28, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Durrell was born on July 25, 1946 in St. Stephen and was the son of the late Everett and Ina Godsoe.
Durrell served on the Saint John Police Force retiring after 34 years of dedicated service. He was an amazing soul who was greatly loved and respected by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him. Durrell had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone at anytime. He always had a smile and corny joke whenever he stopped to talk to someone, which was often.
Durrell was an avid sports fan; he loved the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, but his true passion was for his beloved Montreal Canadiens.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Geraldine “Gerrie” Purkis; son Duane (Tanya); daughter Heather (Tim); sister Sharon; grandchildren Nicholas, Kayley (Kevin), Sydney, Rachel, Jaiden, Jorja and Brooklyn; great-grandchildren Paisley and Blake; sister-in-law Beryl (David) Pryor of England; best friend Keith (Lynn) Purdy; several nieces and nephews and his canine companion Baxter.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law Gerald and Joyce Purkis.
The family would like to thank nurse Jillian, Dr. Douglas and Dr. Huracek (5AN) for all the love and support given to Durrell and family during his time in your care.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd. with visitation on Monday July 5, 2021 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday July 6, 2021 at 11am. Interment will follow in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those wishing to attend please call the funeral home directly at 646-2424 to RSVP.
