Suddenly as the result of a heart attack, at Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Friday, April 16, 2021. Doug Smelser of Port Dover, formerly of Jarvis, one week short of his 87th birthday. Beloved husband of the late Janet (1995) and Diane Williams (nee Morris). Loving father of Diane Xurieb and John Gushie, Patty Smelser, Paul and Kathy Smelser, Sandra and Hal Brown and Terry Smelser. Dear grandfather of Clint (Cheryl), Jenny (Randy), Tara (Jesse), Brandie (Colin), Kristal (Paul), Josh (Meredith), Kaela (Jen), Melissa (Mark), Ashley (Trevor), Brennan (Lyndsay), Jeremy, Alesha and Rylin. Great grandfather of Dakota, Hunter, Hannah, Riley, Alison, Kaylee, Blake, Gavin, Emily, Amber, Colton, Carter, Scarlett, Nolan, Charlotte, Addison, Noah, Bentley and Hailey. Brother of Audrey (the late Gordon, 2019) Mitchell, Kay and Elgin Mitchell, the late Ron (2008) and Sandra, the late Don (2012) and Elspeth, Peggy and Neil Pankhurst, the late Leroy (1945), the late Fred (2017) and Brian and Marcia Smelser. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at COOPER FUNERAL HOME, 19 Talbot Street West, Jarvis on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 2-4 pm. The funeral service for Doug will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 21 at 11 am. Interment to follow at Knox Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Jarvis. Both the funeral and graveside service are closed to in-person attendance, but will be livestreamed on the funeral home Facebook page and through the funeral home website.
