Obituary of Diane Lamey
It is with great sadness that the family of Diane Jean Lamey (nee Hughes) announces her passing on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the age of 77 years.
Diane will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Harry and her children, Carla Bradley (Dennis) Barrie, On, Shannon Lamey (Halifax). Diane was a proud grandmother. She cherished her grandchildren: Landon, Halen, Aiden and Claire. She is survived by several brother and sister in laws who were loving and supportive through out her illness: Sadie Golding (Pictou), Ann Davidson (Don) New Brunswick, Steve Lamey (Joan) New Glasgow, Margaret (Grant) Stewart (Stellarton), Maureen Lamey (Springville), Agnes (Bill) O’Brien (Pictou), Betty (Bill) Langille (Scotsburn). She is also survived by her aunt, Margaret Parsons (Halifax) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents: Samuel and Mae Hughes, sister Betty Deyoung (Jim) and brother Sammy Hughes. father and mother- in law William and Margaret Lamey. She is also predeceased by brother in laws: John Lamey, William Lamey, Alexander Lamey, James Lamey, Whit Davidson and William Golding.
Through out her life Diane was devoted to helping others. She will always be remembered for her charitable heart. She worked at Mac Leod’s Pharmacy for many years and later at the Trenton High School cafeteria. Diane was loved by the many students who leaned on her for care and sage advice. Being charitable to others was very important to her and something that she instilled in her children. She was a foster mother for many years. Her family home in Westville was always a welcome place for family and the many friends that she and Harry had. It later became the gathering place for the friends of her children who referred to her as a second mother.

Diane espoused to this. She will affectionately be remembered for her warm, quick wit, laughter and twinkle in her eye. She was always the center of family gatherings with her joyful, spirited sense of humour. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She never missed an opportunity to show or say, I love you. She loved Christmas and each year, more effort and care was put into the celebration as her circle of family and friends grew. She was always grateful and thankful for her many blessings. Her greatest blessing being Harry’s unwavering love and care of her in her final years.
Diane will be forever missed. When she laughs in heaven and the twinkle in her eye returns, we will see the sun shine a bit brighter and the stars will have a little more twinkle. We will know that these are signs of her unending love for us.
Diane’s family extends a very special thank-you to Dr. McCara who was her physician for more than 30 years, Pictou County VON and nurses of the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
Due to Covid restrictions visitation and funeral service will be held, at a later date. In leiu of flowers., donations in her memrory may be made to the Westville Salvation Army or the Pictou County V.O.N.
