David Gordon Sleeman Thursday April 8th 2021

Sleeman, David Gordon
David lived a wonderful rich life, until the age of 56, and on Thursday, April 8th, 2021 we said goodbye to our warrior. David’s family and team of doctors considered his battle with cancer a triumphant success because he truly lived life to the fullest and continued to create many great memories over the last eight years. David and Kim built a beautiful life together and were married for 32 amazing years. He was a proud father and adored his sons, Cole and Chad, who have both grown to be amazing men. David was blessed with having his parents, Gordon and Mary Sleeman as incredible role models. David loved living in Port Hope and being close with his family. He was grateful to celebrate so many family milestones and holidays with his sister Christine Sleeman Pogue and her husband Bruce Pogue along with their children, Maddison and Ethan.
David also enjoyed spending time in the Ottawa Valley with his: sister-in-law Brenda Mondor and her husband Fern, brother-in-law Clayton Royce and his wife Marita along with their children, Thomas and Elizabeth, sister-in-law Karen Melanson and her husband Bob, sister-in-law Bernice Brown and her husband Ted along with their daughter Michelle, sister-in-law Sharon Lamendeau and her husband Bob along with their children Tammy and Richard. David had a special relationship with his mother-in-law, Barbara Royce, and was always grateful for the time she spent creating memories in Port Hope.
He was a member of the Red Knights motorcycle club and he also organized rides with his good friends, the «Misfits». David was very charismatic, had a great sense of humour, loved playing hockey, wake surfing and body building. He was always known as an incredibly positive person. He loved watching his sons play sports and coached hockey for a number of years. David was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting every year with his dad, sons and fellow hunters. He was extremely social and made friends with ease. He was a collector of friendships throughout his life and he was even building relationships at Ed’s House in Cobourg.
David enjoyed his jobs in construction, as a lineman for Hydro in Cobourg, as a firefighter at OPG (Pickering and Darlington) and then as a millwright for OPG in Campbellford. David also had his own general construction and snow plowing business while living in Cobourg, as well as, Little Creek Enterprises and Dave Sleeman & Sons Ltd. in Port Hope. David spent a lot of his childhood growing up at his family’s sand and gravel company. His love for construction began there, and Dave became a master at operating heavy equipment and of a variety of construction, carpentry and electrical skills.
There are so many people to thank for supporting and enhancing David’s quality of life. Firstly, his wife Kim and his sons Cole and Chad were his palliative care team for over two months in their family home. The staff at Ed’s House in Cobourg, Doctor Mule, Northumberland Hills Hospital Palliative Care staff, Kingston General Hospital Doctor Pokrupa, Doctor Kalyvas and Doctor Hameed, Doctor Nearing in Cobourg, Community Care Northumberland staff and of course family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues.
David had a passion for helping others and was often found pitching in for friends, neighbours and complete strangers. David believed in karma and felt if he helped others, then that karma would come back to support his family when they needed it most.
Due to the COVID 19 gathering restrictions a private family service will be held and a celebration of his life will be announced when gathering restrictions are allowed.
Memorial donations to Camp Bucko (Burn Survivors) or to the Brian Tumor Foundation of Canada would be appreciated and may be received at www.rossfuneralchapel.com
