Obituary
David passed away peacefully January 30, 2021 with his beloved son, Brandon, at his side. He was predeceased by his mother Virginia (Gini) Henline-Fripp; his brother Jay Fripp and his nephew Isaac Mills.
David will be profoundly missed by his father, John and his step-mother, Lizabeth Drolet-Fripp; his son Brandon, daughter-in-law Jennifer and step-grand-daughter Mackenzie; his brothers and sister, Kim, Robert and Renee (Mills); as well as his nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. We will surely miss David’s shenanigans at the Fripp Family Reunions. He loved us all!
David successfully ran an insurance brokerage in Ottawa for over 30 years. He loved golfing and skiing. He played golf whenever he had the opportunity to be on the course. David was a downhill skier primarily but had his time on the ski jumps also. At one point after he had retired from ski jumping in his 30’s he took up jumping again. He and his brother Kim decided to go to the Canadian Championships at Big Thunder in Thunder Bay. In order to qualify for the competition everyone had to jump off the K120 (120 meter) jump, this being the largest ski jump in North America. David was not sure it was a good idea as he walked up the in-run to get to the start gate. When he got to the top and looked down, the height really scared him. While he wasn’t sure he should attempt this jump he was determined to do it. He went to the very back of the large wait platform, where he couldn’t see down the in-run. When his name was called, he ran to the start platform, with his very long ski jumping skis on, and went for it. As he sped down the in-run he was shocked and terrified by the fact that he just kept going faster and faster. He took off into the air laying as flat as he could, but his skis were vertical beside him not in front. Not exactly where they should have been. By the time he hit the landing hill he landed sideways. He tumbled all the way down the hill. At the end he was so glad that he had made it without injury he got up and did the jump again, this time he made the jump without incident. David was a very brave man indeed.
