Craig Joseph MacInnes
September 16, 2021

Craig Joseph MacInnes, age 84 of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth General Hospital, on September 16, 2021.
Born in Dartmouth, as the eldest son of the late Elmore Laughlin (Spike) and Evelyn Agnes (Kane) MacInnes, he attended King’s Collegiate school in Windsor and later served his Marine Electrician apprenticeship at the Halifax Shipyards.
As a Marine Electrician with Imperial Oil, he travelled to many ports around the world, and formed a life-long connection to the sea. He showed an uncanny ability to fix all things mechanical, and throughout his life he worked as an auto mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, and even repaired ship and aircraft engines. He was perhaps best known later in life as a General Contractor during the early years of the Burnside Industrial Park, where he did carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, built and demolished buildings and did regular maintenance work at several large warehouses. Over the years he did store installations at shopping malls throughout the Maritimes, and built houses for clients, acquaintances, and family. He renovated several long-standing Tim Horton’s outlets and often went on to become their best customer.
Craig has been described as a kind and generous man, a philosopher and wordsmith. He was a lover of cars and boats, and all things with an engine. Although his strangest purchase may have been a World War II Bren Gun Carrier, he was best known for his 1981 DeLorean, and his renovated 70-foot Cape Cod, the Camilla. The DeLorean appeared in multiple Nova Scotia films, while the Cape Cod, moored at the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal, dotted photographs of the Dartmouth waterfront for over 20 years.
Craig is survived by his eldest son, Tim MacInnes (Brigitte), his grand-daughter Sara Adams (Brent), great grand-daughters, Audrey and Amelia Adams, sister-in-law Donna (White) MacInnes, nephew Chad MacInnes, niece, Rae-Leigh MacInnes and several grand nephews. Besides his parents, Craig is pre-deceased by his brother Daniel, sons Peter and Shawn, and grand-daughter Erin.
The entire family would like to say a special thank you to the friends and neighbours who watched out for him, and to the nurses and doctors at the Dartmouth General Hospital who provided exceptional care.
Craig has been cremated. A gathering for friends and family will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Online condolences by visiting www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca.
