Buddy’s Obituary
Buddy Wayne Clarke was born November 15/1951 in Fort Vermillion, AB to Violet and Warn Clarke. Violet was 5 months pregnant with Buddy when she lost her husband Warn in a work accident. Buddy and his brother, Walter were sent to Hay River, NWT to go stay with aunty Jessie and uncle George Gardner where they lived for two years.
In 1954, Dad and Walter came to Peace River to be with his mom, Violet and the rest of the family. At the age of 10 he went to go stay with Maryanne and Cook Rivard. Dad lived with them off and on for a few years here in Peace River. When he was 14 he went to stay with Joyce and Holly Swigger in Peace River and then they moved to Vancouver. At the age of 16 he moved home to rejoin the family. Before he moved to Vancouver at the age of 14, he loved art and took up lessons with Mrs. Laroque here in Peace River. He carried it with him for the rest of his life. He was so talented at drawing.
Uncle Buddy also had an eye for big old cars and pick-ups. He even built a Hot Rod. He was always a Ford Man (54 ford Fairlane) and Ford Pickup trucks. He enjoyed stylish older cars with more flare and curves, but he also seemed to like the newer pick-ups and the newer tech they had to offer. He was always a man for power. I recall a story when Uncle Buddy got new ford king ranch that he chipped and raced it to Peace River from Edmonton… and it only took him a few hours and one speeding ticket. All just to bug his bros. They always talked and teased each other about who had the truck with the most power.
Dad worked harder than he played. He left school early to pursue a career in Alberta’s oil patch where he moved the drilling platforms/rigs for the oil companies all over British Columbia, Alberta and the N.W.T. He even moved a few drilling rigs clear across Canada from B.C and Alberta to Newfoundland. He worked and operated the big oilfield trucks needed to perform these critical operations for the oil and gas industries. He worked out of Nisku and Leduc for years before moving back north. Buddy worked alongside his dad, brothers and cousins for decades. Dad always wanted to look his best; never knew when he might see a good-looking woman. He liked his music; Neil Diamond and Half-Breed by Cher (half naked song on a war pony). He was a good dancer. All kinds of dancing, he had fast feet and fast hands. He had a fast, hard right but you always had to look out for the left. He respected others and treated others accordingly.
On March 6, 2021 Buddy was called home. He passed away in Peace River Hospital at 6:00 pm with his loving family at his side.
He leaves behind his sister, Corrine (Russ); brothers, Walter (Audrey), Clarence (Leah), Terry and his lil sis Marilyn (Garry); son, Bryce Oslie (Lisa) and grandchildren.
Buddy was predeceased by his mom, Violet; father, Philip and his brother, Warn as well as older sisters, Elda and Helen.
He had many nieces and nephews that he took as sisters and brothers. Buddy held his family close and put them before himself and always made each of us feel like we had a special place in his heart.
Dad we love you and you will be dearly missed by us all. Until we meet again old man. Good-bye Dad.
