Boleslaw Rutkowski Thursday January 7th 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Boleslaw ‘Bolek’ Rutkowski (98 years) on January 7, 2021 at Health Sciences North. Oldest child of the late Stanislaw and Wincentyna. Predeceased by his beloved wife Irena (nee Jazwinska) and his children, Henryk and Marysia. Loving father-in-law to Terry. Proud Dziadziu of Kelly (Blake) Didone and Andrew. Very proud ‘Super Dziadziu’ of Cooper and Nate. Cherished big brother of Jan and Marysia of Poland and predeceased by his brothers Maciej and Stanislaw. Boleslaw will be fondly remembered by many family and friends across the world. Boleslaw was born in Poland. During the second world war, he was a home-army soldier and participant of the Warsaw Uprising. In 1947, Boleslaw immigrated to Canada where he met and married his ‘sweetheart’, started his family, and worked in the smelter at Falconbridge mine until his retirement. Boleslaw was a very active and respected member of the Polish community. Boleslaw was a founding member of St. Casimir’s Parish and he was one of the founding members of the Polish Combatants Association (Sudbury branch) where he dedicated much of his time in volunteer work. Over the years, Boleslaw has been commemorated for his participation in the war in both Canada and Poland. His family could not be prouder of his achievements and the awards that he received. Boleslaw was also a local celebrity on the Sudbury boardwalk where he walked daily for years and later, sat on his bench, to meet and greet fellow walkers. Boleslaw left an impression on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts. May he rest in peace with his family who passed before him. A special thank you to Jan and Ania Rutkowski, the Skelly family, as well as to the staff at Southwind Retirement Residence for the special care and support provided to Boleslaw and family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northern Cancer Foundation, NEO Kids, or St. Casimir’s Parish would be greatly appreciated. Resting at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home. 233 Larch Street, Sudbury where friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8pm Sunday, January 24th, 2021. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 7pm under the auspices of the Polish Combatants Association and parish prayers at 7:30pm. Funeral mass in St. Casimir’s Church, 210 Paris Street, Sudbury on Monday, January 25th, 2021 at 10am. Entombment in the Civic Cemetery Mausoleum.
