Bernice Smith (nee Merrick)
January 5, 1933- December 31, 2020
It is with heavy hearts the family of Florence Bernice Smith (Nee Merrick) announces her passing at Strathmere Lodge on December 31st, 2020 at the age of 87.
Bernice was the beloved wife of the late William E. (Bill) Smith (2017) for 66 years.
Loving mother of Doug Smith (late Debbie – 2018), the late Donald Smith (1955) and Marilyn Buttery. Cherished grandmother Kim Vos (Rob), the late Kerry Smith (1983), Stephanie Sanders (Patrick), and Kurtis Smith (Bridget). Proud great-grandmother of Cameron and Eva Vos, Brooklyn and Jackson Sanders and Baby Smith (Arriving Spring 2021). Predeceased by her parents Charles & Mae (Ferguson) Merrick.
Bernice will be missed dearly by family friend, Lynne Lawrence, along with her many other relatives & friends.
Bernice worked in dietary as a food supervisor at Strathroy Hospital until her retirement. Bernice was a 68 year Lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star Forest 116; a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Napier, & a member of the Napier Women’s Institute. Good natured & easy to get along with, Bernice enjoyed her family and friends. She was born in Cairngorm and Bernice moved to Napier where she raised her family. Her second home for many years was at the Klondyke Trailer Park in Grand Bend. Great Grandma Smith made the best oatmeal porridge & gave the best hugs. Bernice enjoyed the connection to everyone that she had with her iPad using FaceBook, Find Friends & most of all FaceTime with her Family. A very special thanks to Strathmere Lodge and Brookside Retirement for their care.
As per Bernice’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Online condolences and donations may be left at www.watfordfuneralhome.com
