Warrant Officer (Retired) Bernice Hewlitt, CD, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on July 2, 2021 at Hospice Peterborough in her 79th year. Bernice had a long military career serving on many bases across Canada and four years in France and Germany. She earned the following military service medals: Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, NATO Special Service Medal, UNEFEME Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasp.
Bernice is survived by her sister Ellen (Leo predeceased), her brother Clayton (Viola); her sister-in-law Olivia; many nieces and nephews, and loving friends. She is predeceased by her parents Samuel and Irene, her lifelong friend and companion Violet Connor, sister Caroline Trask (Claude), brothers Adolphus (Jessie), Augustus, Titus (Blanche), Leslie and Steward Rex.
Bernice was thankful for the loving care that she received from her family and friends and the caring nurses and PSWs from the Brockville LHIN during her illness. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Hospice Peterborough for the amazing care and respect that she received in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Peterborough, Palliative Care Brockville or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Memorial Chapel at Roselawn, 2451 County Road 15, Maitland on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 11 am – 1 pm. A service in honour of Bernice’s life will take place in the chapel at 1 pm followed by interment and a reception.
