Obituary
WIELER, Arley Allan
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arley Wieler on April 23, 2021 after a brief illness.
Arley is the oldest child of John and Judith Wieler. He is survived by his wife Leslie Sichello and two daughters Kristi Baker (Carey), Erin Leuschen (Dale), and his three wonderful grandchildren Adam Baker, Emma Baker and Hayden Leuschen. Arley is also survived by his younger sisters Julia Wieler and Leona Wieler (Dianna Sutton). The Sichello family (Mary, Lawrence, Jan, Jason, Vanessa, Haley, Lee, Ashley and Alex) miss him dearly.
Arley was born on June 15, 1945 and lived his first 16 years in Osler. As a young boy he worked for others in the community. In 1961 he enrolled at Rosthern Junior College. The RJC years were impactful mostly due to the long lasting, loyal friendships.
The year after high school he attended Teacher’s College. This began an incredible 41 year professional career. His first teaching job was in Martensville, followed by Osler and finally 30 years with Saskatoon Public School Board.
After retirement, he capped off his career with 9 years of service with other school divisions. Most of this work involved supervising interns.
Arley believed you have to give to any group or any community that has had some influence on your life. His volunteer work was extensive and many groups benefited from his time and generosity. The Bridge, Saskatchewan Abilities Council, Saskatoon Preschool Foundation and iGen were some of the places that he was greatly involved with.
Activity and sports were important to Arley. Hockey, baseball, and racquet sports were key in his early years. He worked out at the gym daily. In his 50s he trained for and completed two full marathons. One of these marathons was in Disney World and was a fundraiser for the Arthritis Society. Many miles were walked on the beaches of Mexico. In the summers he golfed with a group of guys he loved being with. And then he found Pickleball. His new passion allowed him to compete at local, provincial and international tournaments. He was always looking for the next doubles partner and loved his Pickleball community.
Everyone knows Arley. It was a challenge to walk down the street without stopping to talk to former students or their parents. He recognized and acknowledged kids he taught, even his earliest days. He was generous with his time. He made positive assumptions about everything and everyone.
Family and relationships were Arley’s number one priority. We will miss his jokes and sense of humour, his loyalty and dependability. His absence at the sidelines of sporting events will be noted. His easy going way and gentle guidance will be sorely missed. Every live music event will remind us of his love of music. The loss of this incredible man is something we will feel forever.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Misfeldt and all of the other health care professionals who were involved in his care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Saskatoon Preschool Foundation ( www.spf.sk.ca/pages/donate_now ).
