Anna Theresa «Loretta» Hillstrom
1926-2021
It was a beautiful spring day on April 29th, 2021, as the
golden sun set, that Anna Theresa «Loretta»
Hillstrom peacefully passed on from this World at Whisperwood Villa,
in Charlottetown PEI, at age 94.
She will always be
remembered by her loving husband Bruce; her three children, Valerie
MacDougall (Tom), Colleen Gilchrist (Bill) and Gus Hillstrom; her
seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased
by her parents Wilbur and Mamie Trainor; sisters Georgina and Aurilda;
brothers Gerald and Bernard.
She was born in Charlottetown
on September 28, 1926, and grew up at Royalty Maples Court in West
Royalty. After graduating from nursing school she soon began her
nursing career in Halifax, where she met Sailor Bruce, who took her
dancing. From that day on, they waltzed for the next 64 years.
Loretta, alongside Bruce, ran Royalty Maples Court for the next
30 years, opening their hearts and home to travellers, family, and
friends. Loretta was an excellent hostess, whether it was Sunday
dinner for extended family, hosting a bridge club, or get togethers
with friends. Loretta was always there to help anyone who called, and
spent many hours working with PEI Hospice.
The family
wishes to extend sincere gratitude to all of the staff at Whisperwood
Villa, and a special thanks to Trish. Thank you for your care and
compassion.
Resting at the Hennessey Cutcliffe
Charlottetown Funeral Home. Due to current restrictions a family
visitation will be held and funeral mass (by invitation only) will be
celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish Church in
Cornwall, with interment later in the Roman Catholic Cemetery. The
funeral mass will be available for viewing via live stream on
Wednesday, May 5th at 10:30 a.m. by visiting Loretta’s
