Ann Meek
1955-2021

Ann passed peacefully, early
on December 22nd. Raised in Kinkora, by her parents Arnold and Norma
McIver (predeceased). Survived by her loving children, Stephanie
(Trevor), Robert, and Colleen (Keegan), her grandchildren, Meghan
(Cory), James, Emily (Jaycee), Alex, and Adele, and her
great-grandchildren, Ezra, and Willow (on the way). Her sister Sharon
(Glenn), her birth siblings Mark (Jeannette), Linda (Eddie), as well
as her nieces, nephews, and other beloved family and friends will miss
her very much. Miriam Ann Meek (nee McIver) was born on July 30th,
1955. Ann was a bright light, a colourful, vibrant woman who loved her
family, music, and any craft she could do with her hands. Her
favourite was paint by numbers. You could often find a collection of
them piled around her house, along with more paint than you could ever
use in a lifetime. She kept herself surrounded by family and friends.
There was almost never a time she didn’t have a visitor,
nursing a cup of tea and a gingersnap, being regaled with stories and
conversation. What little quiet time there was, was filled with music,
or books (of which she had stacks to rival the paintings). Ann had a
passion for music. She sang, played guitar, and even went to nationals
in choir when she was younger. (A story she adored telling.) She also
spent as much of her time as she could at the family cottage in
Chelton in the summers. There was always something going on there.
Family lived all around. She’d enjoy the kitchen parties and
barbecues and loved to walk the beach and collect seashells and sea
glass. She was an avid yard-saler too, often finding both the
strangest and most interesting things everyone else seemed to miss.
She amassed a gorgeous collection of pieces and oddities, scattered
all around. She enjoyed learning and ancestry. She could have probably
traced her and other people’s lineage, all the way to the first roots.
A persistent woman, overcoming every obstacle that came her way, she
showed this by graduating college later in life. This was probably one
of her proudest moments. She took that tenacity through everything
that came her way. From personal struggles to anything she set her
mind to, she took pride in her stubbornness and ability to see it
through. Her true pride in life though, was her family, and her
grandchildren. She told everyone who would stop and listen how proud
she was. She was excited about the newest arrivals and was looking
forward to the next one on the way. There was never a time she
wasn’t bragging about her children and
grandchildren’s accomplishments, big or small. A big thank
you to all the nurses and staff, you brightened her days and made her
last months the best they could be. In lieu of flowers, the family
would appreciate any donations to PEI Mental Health. Resting at
Lawless Funeral Home, Kinkora. There will be no visitation or funeral
service by personal request. A celebration of life and a graveside
service will be held at St. Malachy’s church cemetery at a
later date.
