Alexander Byrne
January 7, 1958 – December 27, 2021
Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre with his family by his side, Alexander “Alex” Byrne, aged 63 years.
Predeceased by his parents Alex Byrne Sr. and Violet Byrne (nee Yetman); brother James Byrne; sister Ellen Hogan; brother-in-law Eugene Ryan; and father-in-law Richard Ryan.
Left with heavy hearts but many cherished memories, his wife of 37 years Mariette (nee Ryan); daughter Jenessa (Travis); son Alexander (Emily); special granddaughter of 3 months, Sydney Nicole; sisters and brothers: Joan (Kevin Joy), Mary (Mike Wilkins), Gerry (Jim Guinchard), Bob (Paulette), Carole (Doug Laing), John (Pauline), Marie (Sonny Hawkins), Michael (Debbie), Sharon (Carl Smith), Donna (Wayne Hussey), Ron, Tony (Fran) and Chris (Eileen); mother-in-law Leone Ryan; brothers-in-law Derrick Ryan (Kathy) and Kenneth Hogan; sisters-in-law Cathy Dyer and Rachel Byrne; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts and other family and friends.
Inducted into the Torbay Sports Hall of Fame in 2014, Alex was an avid lover of all things sports, especially hockey and softball. This was evident in his own participation but also through coaching his children and many others in minor sports. He was a loving father who cherished his family very much. He also loved taking care of his property, whether it was mowing the lawn, tending to his gardens, snow blowing the driveway or stacking firewood.
Special thanks to his brothers, son and nephews Mark and Michael for helping him at “da wood” over the past few difficult years. Another special thank you to Dr. Matthew Andrews and staff and the nurses of the 4th Floor at the Health Sciences Centre.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 31st, 2021 from Holy Trinity Church, Torbay at 11 a.m with inurnment to follow in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bauline Line. Those in attendance must register with the family.
