HOLMES, Albert «Bud» Richard – age 90 of the Villa St. Joseph du Lac, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2021, at the Villa. Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, on February 24, 1931, he was the son of the late Albert and Evangeline (Koritem) Holmes. Bud went to radio operator college in Ottawa spent 35 years as a radio operator with the Ministry of Transport. He worked in Frobisher Bay, now known as Iqaluit, Cape Harrison Labrador, Greenwood, N.S., Charlottetown, PEI, and finally in Yarmouth at the Yarmouth Regional Airport. Bud was a people person and jokester; he was quick with a smile and had one on his face right until the end. He was a proud south-ender and avid collector of everything and anything. He loved computer club and was a bit of a digital historian, collecting and providing photographs of old Yarmouth, otherwise known as the «Bud Holmes Collection.» He loved old movies and sports and was a proud supporter of the local Yarmouth Sports Hall of Fame. He considered himself fortunate to live long enough to see the Boston Red Sox win 4 World Series in his lifetime. He is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Scott) Ricketts, St. Petersburg, Florida; son, Jeff (Karen) Holmes, Yarmouth Co, grandchildren, Brendan, Kristen, Hannah; and great grand-daughter Gwenevieve. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Irma (Moores). Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held October 4, 2021, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with Prayers at 7:30 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral mass will be held October 5, 2021, at 10 a.m. from St Ambrose Co Catherdral with Father Henry Smolenaars officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Bud’s memory may be made to Mariners on Main.
