Obituary
Wayne passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, March 14, 2020 at Foothills Country Hospice after a short battle with cancer.
Wayne was born to Les and Mag Kauffeldt in Arnprior Ontario and was raised in the North American Baptist Church where he became a youth leader and sang bass in different quartets, including one with his with his father, brother, and uncle with his sister playing the piano.
Wayne completed his education at Algonquin College (Ottawa) in Business Administration and began his working career with Simpsons Sears in Ottawa in 1966. He became the youngest store manager (Richmond Hill, ON) in 1979.
Wayne completed his career with 21 years at the Calgary Board of Education in 2010 spending many years training school facilitators. One of his biggest joys in that position was spending time learning about the lives and backgrounds of the many diverse employees.
Wayne married the love of his life Laura in June 1966 and they were blessed with three wonderful girls, Jennifer, Kimberley, and Amy. Wayne and Laura were also involved in foster care for many years.
Wayne is lovingly remembered by his wife Laura and his daughters Jennifer (Regi) Rocha, Kim (Greg) Hillis and is predeceased by Amy (June 1999). He also loved watching his three grandsons growing up, Isaac Hillis (14), Sam Hillis (12) and Leo Hillis (9) and hearing about all the activities they were involved in.
Wayne will be missed by his brother Bill Kauffeldt, his sister Sheryl (Ron) Hanniman and sister-in-law Cathy (Ken) Grist and by nieces and nephews who all appreciated his sense of humour.
For the past 20 years Wayne worked tirelessly with MADD Canada making many close friends who shared his goal to bring awareness to the dangers of impaired driving and support those whose lives were touched by the impact of this crime. In his retirement years he enjoyed watching golf on TV and playing golf with his friends. He loved to putter on small projects in his home and create things in his workshop, and taking long walks with his dog Abby. He was also a voracious reader, loved to discuss news and debate politics, and enjoyed the fellowship he shared with friends at Southview Church.
He is gone way too soon from our lives but still lives in our hearts and his words and sense of humour will forever echo in our ears. A memorial service will be held at a date yet to be announced.
