It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Gordon Nash, who slipped away peacefully on Sept. 15th, 2020 at the age of 71. Surrounded by his close friends and family at the time of his passing, he knew he was with those who loved him dearly. Born on May 22nd, 1949, Wayne was predeceased by his parents Henry and Evelyn Nash and his brother Stewart “Gunny” Nash. He is survived by his stepmom Doris Nash, his niece Christine (Cory) Nash, nephews David (Jen) Nash and Brad (Lisa) Nash, as well as his great nephews Hudson, Keaton and Gavin, whom he thoroughly enjoyed spoiling.
Wayne was a well-known figure around the Lake Cowichan community and touched the lives of so many through his involvement with Kinsmen, as a master diver, a guard at the local RCMP detachment, float building, tree topping, bartending and Zamboni driving. Wayne took great pride in his work; particularly his float building business. After a storm he could be found down at the lake inspecting all of his customer’s floats to make sure they remained intact. He approached life with a childlike exuberance and was always willing to help in the community and aid those in need. A friend to all, enemy to no one, Wayne had space in his heart for everyone. He was an avid Trekkie who was fascinated with new technology, yet continued to use a flip phone. He also enjoyed travelling. On more than one occasion he visited Las Vegas, where he looked forward to seeing the Cirque de Soleil shows and creating memorable adventures with close friends and family.
“Uncle Wayne” brought tremendous joy and many happy memories to his niece and nephews over the years. A customary presence at holidays, he was forever ready and willing to play Lego, board games or any other pastime asked of him. He took great pleasure in determining the perfect Christmas gifts for his niece and nephews every year; a practice which he continued with his great nephews. Always the “fun” uncle, he was quick to teach on anything found to be exciting such as driving a boat and making “doughnuts” in the snow with his truck. In the later years, although separated by distance, Uncle Wayne was never more than a phone call away and enjoyed staying connected with his family.
A very special thanks and great appreciation for his best friend Steve Whyte; Kathy and Michelle Edwards; Klaas and Paula Jansma and Ben Yablonski – all of whom provided incredible support to Wayne during his last few months. A special recognition must also be given to Dr. Masuda, his own personal nurse and friend Teresa Daly, and all the home care & support people he was fortunate to have in his life at the end. Wayne will forever be remembered, loved and honoured by all of those who knew him.
Those wishing to make a donation in his memory may do so to the local Kinsmen club.
