Walter Peter Bewsky
1940 – 2020
After a brief battle with Cancer, Walter Bewsky passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at home on February 4th, 2020.
Walter was born on July 2, 1940 on a family farm in Mink Creek, Manitoba district of Ethelbert. He attended Borshaw School, after a few years on the farm the family moved to Gilbert Plains where he attended Brickburn School. In July 1956 he moved to Winnipeg and started work at Wilson Auto Electric a job he held for 38 years. In 1970 he was appointed Personnel Manager which he held until 1994 after which date he left due to illness. In 1961 he married Margaret Hessler his loving wife from Gussing, Burgenland Austria. They had two wonderful daughters Cynthia and Catherine and very special granddaughters Tianna and Savanna.
He was a devoted loving husband and dad to his daughters, and loving “Opa” to his granddaughters (loved them all so very much). He enjoyed farm life, travel, golf, and sports, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Winnipeg Jets, and Toronto Maple Leafs. With his family he travelled to Austria, Varadero Cuba, Mexico, USA and Canada. Once his grandchildren were born, he had a very special bond with them and had many little outings and “dates” with his little angels. Dad and Mom supported all their activities and were their biggest fans! Over the years he especially loved watching and being there for his granddaughters with their volleyball and basketball school and community teams; Hot Shots, Blazers, Miles MacDonell Buckeyes and University of Manitoba Bisons. He was a wonderful, caring, son, loving husband, greatest dad, best Opa, loving father-in-law, special nurturer and loving brother to his siblings, special uncle and cousin and friend to many. He instilled loving values in our family and treated everyone he came across in life with respect. He was an honest, humble, hardworking husband, father and provider. Family and friends were very important to him as him and mom held many family gatherings.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years Margaret, daughters Cynthia (Rick) Massey, Catherine (Fred) Mighty, granddaughters Tianna and Savanna, dearest Matthew, sister Sylvia Sterzuk (Ray Tanchyk), brother Ron (Cathy, Erika), nieces Lorraine Silk, Sandy Lemay (Larry), nephews Dylan Bewski (Tanya) and Aaron Bewski, great nieces and nephews Wade, Lisa, Kristy, Kyle, Sydney, Brayden, Nathan and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Elsie & Mike Bewsky, brother John, sister-in-law Dorothy, nephew Phil, sisters Alma, Mary and brother Ernie, brother-in-law George Sterzuk, in-laws Ernst and Teresa Hessler.
Funeral Mass service will be held February 15th, 2020 at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 355 Andrews St, Wpg, MB, Inurnment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery, 4355 Main St, West St Paul, MB with lunch reception to follow in Parish Hall 515 College Ave, (beside church) free parking in lot. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to offer masses or prayers for him, or donations can be made to a charity of choice.
Our family would like to give special thanks and appreciation to numerous family and friends for all their prayers and support, Palliative Care Cori Yakiwchuk and staff (Jade, Tamara, Angela) for their care to dad, Dr. Sheldon Permack, Cancer Care, Father Bo Wardzinski and Susan Goleski from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, members of the Legion of Mary for their prayers and support, Father Dominic Yuen from St. Anthony’s Church, St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic church for their assistance with dad’s inurnment, Adam Sweryd from Bardal Funeral home for handling all arrangements with such great compassion, and Luigi’s Catering on Erin St. for dad’s reception.
