Ursula Mary (Grigg) Thomas
1925-2020
Ursula Mary (Grigg) Thomas, age 95, passed away
peacefully on August 28, 2020 in Wolfville Nursing Home. Daughter of
the late Alfred and Evelyn (Gingell) Grigg, she was born in Reading,
England and immigrated to Canada in 1956 (see passport photo above).
Mum is survived by daughters, Sue Thomas and Rosemary (Vic) Drisdelle;
three grandchildren, Beth McClelland (Kathy Gould), Kat McClelland
(Andreas Christou) and Drew McClelland (Holly); and two
greatgrandchildren, Eli and one on the way. Ursula had a career in
biology. She worked for many years in the geology department at SMU in
Halifax. She was a familiar face at the NS Museum of Natural History,
and a long-time member of the NS Field Naturalists. She could often be
found in roadside ponds wearing hip waders and collecting ostracods
– on which she was an international authority. She loved to
travel, share a beer with family and friends, and was a voracious
reader. She was proud of her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren who
brought her much joy. Warm thanks to the Wolfville Nursing Home for
their compassionate care. A private celebration of her life will be
held at a later date. Donations in her memory can be made to the Nova
Scotia Nature Trust. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the
White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
